HYDERABAD/AHMEDABAD - JK Cement Ltd has received the environmental clearance for its 49.43-bln-rupee integrated cement project proposed to come up at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, according to a document reviewed by Informist.
The company proposes to set up the project in a phased manner. The project would include two clinker plants with a capacity of 4 mln tn per annum each, two cement grinding units with a capacity of 3 mln tn per annum each, and two waste heat recovery-based power plants of 25 MW each. The company will also install railway infrastructure at the unit.
JK Cement will spend 49.43 bln rupees on the project in two phases. In the first phase, it will spend 26.82 bln rupees and, in the second, 22.61 bln rupees. The project will be spread across 210 ha, the document said.
As of Jun 30, JK Cement had grey cement capacity of 24.34 mln tn per annum, and white cement and wall putty capacity of 3.05 mln tn per annum. The company also has waste heat recovery-based power generation capacity of 82.3 MW, and captive solar and wind power capacity of 85.24 MW. Its capacity utilisation as of Jun 30 was 79%. In Apr-Jun, the company's revenue from operations was 26.43 bln rupees, with a net profit of 2.03 bln rupees.
The new project would require 10.8 mln tn per annum of limestone, the document said. Of this, the company hopes to source 5.4 mln tn per annum of cement grade limestone from its captive limestone mines at Khinya-II in the state, spread across 304 ha. The company received environmental clearance for mining from here in July 2022. Further, it is in the process to secure an auction block from where it wants to source limestone for the second phase of the integrated cement plant, the document said. The company has also sought 3,000 kl water per day from the Indira Gandhi Canal, located 12.5 km from the project site.
Additionally, the project would need about 76 MW of power. Of this, the company proposes to generate 50 MW in-house, using waste heat recovery system, and will source the remaining from the state grid and renewable energy sources.
Besides this project, JK Cement's current expansion plans include a 3.3-mln-tn-a-year clinker plant at Panna and capacity expansion of 1 mln tn of cement each at its plants in Panna, Hamirpur and Prayagraj. The company is also in the process of setting up a 3-mln-tn-a-year grinding unit in Bihar for which land has been acquired, it said in a recent investor presentation.
